Exclusive sources have revealed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) senior national selection committee will unveil their 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup on September 5. This happened after the Indian captain, head coach Rahul Dravid and chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar had a meeting following the calling off of the India-Pakistan game.

Despite the management having zeroed in on their 15 players for the ODI World Cup, the team announcement will happen only on September 5.

The team want to assess the players returning from injury as Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul might still be concerns for the team.

Rahul will play another practice match in Bengaluru on Monday, September 3. and the side wants to assess him. If he can’t keep wickets for 50 overs then he won’t be picked. Management also wants to see Bumrah bowl a full 10 overs and Iyer spend some more time on the field. Hence, the BCCI is waiting till the 5th to announce.

In case any one of them shows signs of injury they will name a replacement player for each of the injured trio.

Last month, Rahul was selected for India’s Asia Cup 2023 squad after recovering from a thigh injury that ruled him out of action for more than four months.

In a press conference, the chief selector Ajit Agarkar revealed that Rahul has picked up a fresh niggle. A few days later, head coach Rahul Dravid revealed that Rahul has been ruled out of India’s group-stage matches of the Asia Cup against Pakistan and Nepal.
"KL Rahul is progressing really well but will not be available for India’s first two matches – against Pakistan and Nepal – of the Asia Cup 2023," Dravid said in a press conference on August 29.
"He's playing quite well. We're just being cautious. He will only miss two matches. He will have the remaining matches of the Asia Cup and the Australia series before the World Cup," he added.
