David Miller's batting onslaught helped South Africa post a big total against New Zealand in their World Cup 2023 clash in Pune's MCA stadium on November 1, Wednesday.
Following a rock-solid foundation established by Quinton de Kock, who scored a commanding 114, and Rassie van der Dussen's brilliant 133, Miller stepped onto the field with a mission. From the word go, he displayed aggressive batting, dispatching New Zealand bowlers to all corners of the ground, putting them under immense pressure.
However, his spectacular innings was halted by the New Zealand fielder Daryl Mitchell. Miller, trying for a lofted shot towards long-off, was caught off guard by Mitchell. The Kiwi player, right at the boundary, first pushed the ball upwards before crossing over and then expertly caught it on his return, leaving the star Protea batter and the spectators in disbelief.

Miller's innings was a treat to watch. Scoring a blazing 53 runs off just 30 balls, he not only showcased his ability to hit big with two fours and four sixes but also maintained a staggering strike rate of above 176. It was Miller's knock which propelled South Africa to a colossal total of 357/4.
After winning the toss, South Africa opted to bat. The start was steady but South Africa lost Temba Bavuma for just 24 runs. This setback didn't deter the Proteas as Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen came together to dominate the New Zealand bowlers. Their partnership added a mammoth 200 runs for the second wicket, making it look like child's play against a formidable Kiwi attack.
Following this, Miller's ferocity further bolstered South Africa's position. Heinrich Klaasen with 15 not out and Aiden Markram with six not out also chipped in towards the end, contributing to the team's imposing total of 357 runs.
For the Kiwi side, the bowlers had a tough day at the office. Tim Southee managed to clinch two wickets, while the likes of Trent Boult and James Neesham could only grab a wicket apiece.
