The International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled three prominent USA cities: Dallas, Florida, and New York, as the chosen venues for the much-anticipated ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.
This marks a historic moment as the USA prepares to host the T20 World Cup for the first time. The selected venues include Grand Prairie in Dallas, Broward County in Florida, and Nassau County in New York. The decision to co-host the global cricketing spectacle in the USA and West Indies was made back in November 2021, with the venues being finalized after a thorough evaluation.
To enhance the facilities for this grand event, modular stadium solutions will be employed. Notably, there's an agreement in place to construct a 34,000-seat modular stadium in Eisenhower Park, Nassau County, New York, pending the award of the necessary permit next month. Both Grand Prairie and Broward County will also undergo expansions using modular solutions to accommodate more seating, media, and premium hospitality areas.
ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We’re delighted to announce the three USA venues that will host part of the biggest ICC Men’s T20 World Cup ever staged, with 20 teams competing for the trophy. The USA is a strategically important market and these venues give us an excellent opportunity to make a statement in the world’s biggest sport market.” He further emphasised the growing recognition of cricket's vast fanbase in the USA and the sport's potential to bridge diverse communities.
Highlighting the innovative approach, Allardice added, “We are very excited about the opportunity to use modular stadium technology to present world-class cricket in a location that has not previously hosted an ICC global event giving USA cricket fans the chance to watch the world’s best on their doorstep."
Nassau County Executive, Bruce Blakeman, shared his excitement, saying, “Nassau County is excited to partner with the ICC to host the Men’s T20 World Cup, one of the most popular sporting events in the world. I look forward to bringing our many diverse communities together to watch some of the best cricket in the world, right here in Nassau County.”
Additionally, venues like George Mason University in Washington, home to the Major League Cricket team Washington Freedom, have been earmarked for pre-event matches and training.
