In the 15-member India squad for the 2023 ODI World Cup that was announced on September 5 (Tuesday), eight players who featured in the previous edition of the quadrennial competition in 2019 earned a spot in the India squad to play the World Cup once again. A total of seven players have been selected to play in the World Cup for the first time.
Let's take a look at the 8 players who featured in 2019 and their record in the tournament:
1. Rohit Sharma: The Indian skipper scored 648 runs in nine matches with the help of five centuries and one fifty in the 2019 edition of the World Cup.
2. Virat Kohli: The former India captain, who led the Men in Blue in the 2019 World Cup, scored 443 runs in nine matches with the help of five half-centuries.
3. KL Rahul: The elegant right-handed batter scored 361 runs in nine matches with the help of one century and two half-centuries.
4. Ravindra Jadeja: The star all-rounder scored 77 runs in one innings. He played just two matches in the competition and bagged as many wickets.
5. Hardik Pandya: The star India all-rounder scored 226 runs in nine matches. He also bagged 10 wickets in the tournament.
6. Jasprit Bumrah: The premier Indian pacer bagged 18 wickets in nine matches and finished as India's leading wicket-taker in the competition.
7. Mohammed Shami: The right-arm pacer bagged 14 wickets in four matches, including a five-wicket haul.
8. Kuldeep Yadav: The left-arm wrist spinner bagged six wickets in seven matches.
The onus will now be on the aforementioned eight players to use their experience and put on an exquisite display in the upcoming edition of the World Cup.
