During the riveting ODI World Cup clash between India and New Zealand, an unexpected sight greeted fans at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. Kane Williamson turned water boy and was spotted carrying drinks for Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell during New Zealand's batting on October 22, Sunday.

Kane Williamson's absence from the playing eleven was felt deeply as he was sidelined due to a thumb fracture. The injury occurred during New Zealand's match against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on October 13. Owing to this setback, Williamson is slated to miss a some of the upcoming matches, but hopes are high for his return during the competition's latter stages. 

 

In the interim, the reins of captaincy have been handed over to Tom Latham, who has already led New Zealand to back-to-back four victories in the ongoing ODI World Cup. Additionally, Tom Blundell has been called as Williamson's backup for the World Cup roster.

 

Despite Williamson's inability to participate actively in the game, his commitment to the team was evident. In a gesture that speaks volumes about his leadership and dedication, Williamson turned waterboy and was seen carrying drinks for his teammates. 

 

This heartwarming moment transpired at the end of the 14th over, as he brought drinks for Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell. The duo was on the field, striving to regain momentum for New Zealand after a shaky start that saw early departures of key players.

Setting the tone for the day, India, after winning the toss, put the BlackCaps into bat. The Indian bowlers showcased a commendable performance, managing to send back the formidable duo of Devon Conway and Will Young within the first ten overs, posing a challenge for New Zealand's middle order.

 

But then came Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell to steady New Zealand's boat. They took New Zealand to a commanding 178/3 from a precarious 19/2 before Mohammed Shami dismissed Rachin on the score of 75 off 87. Mitchell continued his blitzkrieg and went on to score a brilliant century. At the end of 44 overs, New Zealand are steady at 243/4 with Mitchell (109) and Glenn Phillips (24) intact on the crease.
