The recent developments surrounding the alleged black marketing of tickets for the highly anticipated India vs South Africa World Cup cricket match at the renowned Eden Gardens stadium have stirred a significant response from the Kolkata Police.
With 19 individuals already apprehended and 108 tickets confiscated, the authorities have intensified their efforts to curb the unlawful activities surrounding the ticket sales.
In light of these concerning incidents, the Kolkata Police has taken a proactive step by issuing a notice to the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Roger Binny. The notice, dispatched on the evening of November 4, specifically requested Binny to furnish relevant documents and information pertaining to the ticket sales for the event. This move reflects the authorities' commitment to uncovering any potential malpractices in the distribution and sale of tickets.
The notice, directed to the officer of the Maidan police station, urged the BCCI president to provide the necessary documentation either in person or through a designated representative of the organization during official working hours on Tuesday. The intention is to gather comprehensive information to aid the ongoing investigation into the allegations of ticket black marketing.
As the investigations continue, the Kolkata Police remains steadfast in its efforts to ensure a fair and transparent process for the distribution of tickets, emphasizing the importance of upholding the integrity of sports events and protecting the rights of genuine cricket enthusiasts. With the registered cases reaching a total of seven, the authorities are demonstrating a clear determination to maintain the sanctity of the sporting experience for all stakeholders involved.
Earlier, CAB's ticket mismanagement for Sunday's World Cup match took a political twist on Friday as a group of Congress supporters protested outside Eden Gardens demanding answers from CAB president Snehasish Ganguly.
A group of about 100-odd protesters led by South Kolkata District Congress president Pradip Prasad shouted slogans against Ganguly, holding placards and waving the Congress flag. "We want answers, about how the tickets are being sold in the black market. This is not the first time an India match in the World Cup is happening in Kolkata," Prasad told PTI.
