The story goes back in 2016, when a fervent Pakistani admirer of Indian cricket maestro Virat Kohli faced a 10-year of imprisonment behind bars after he was arrested for raising the Indian tricolor flag atop his home in Pakistan in Punjab Province. The 22-year-old Umar Draz, who worked as a tailor in the Okara district of Punjab, was then presented before a district court, which subsequently ordered his imprisonment on judicial remand.
Daraz was celebrating Kohli's amazing knock of 90 not out, which set up India's 37-run win in the first of three Twenty20 internationals against Australia.
It was on this occasion that police executed a raid on Draz's residence in response to a complaint alleging that he had raised the Indian flag on his rooftop.
The authorities registered a case against him under section 123-A of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 16 of Maintenance of Public Order, both of which carry significant penalties for acts deemed to jeopardize the sovereignty of the country.
