For the third time in three weeks, a new no.1 ODI bowler has been crowned. South Africa’s left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj has dethroned Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj as the no.1 ranked ODI bowler in the ICC rankings.
Earlier, Siraj had dethroned Pakistan speedster Shaheen Afridi from the top spot. In South Africa's last league encounter against Afghanistan, Maharaj picked up two wickets at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. On the other hand, Siraj picked up a couple of wickets against the Netherlands in Bengaluru on November 12.
Maharaj has picked up 14 wickets from nine games in the tournament so far including one four-wicket haul. On the other hand, Siraj has picked up 12 wickets from same number of appearances.
Maharaj has 726 rating points followed by Siraj who has 723. The third, fourth, and fifth spots belong to Adam Zampa, Jasprit Bumrah, and Kuldeep Yadav. Bumrah and Kuldeep moved up to spots. Meanwhile, Afridi has dropped to the no.9 spot.
More movement is anticipated as the top seven bowlers will be involved in the semifinals. Josh Hazlewood are Trent Boult are placed sixth and seventh in the rankings.
In the batter rankings, Shubman Gill remained in the no.1 spot followed by out-of-form Pakistan skipper Babar Azam. South African wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock moved one place to the third spot pushing Virat Kohli to the fourth. The only other Indian on the top 10 list of batters is skipper Rohit Sharma who is on the fifth spot.
Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul benefitted after scoring their respective centuries against the Netherlands in India's last league match of the tournament. Iyer jumped five places to no.13 whereas India's wicketkeeper-batter climbed six places to no.18.
Australia's finisher Glenn Maxwell jumped 17 places to 21 with a record-breaking unbeaten 201 off 128 balls against Afghanistan. Maxwell picked up two wickets in the match and moved one spot in the all-rounder rankings as well. His teammate Mitchell Marsh after an unbeaten 177 against Bangladesh in Australia’s last league game made a massive jump from 49 to 38th place.
