Suryakumar faced a challenging start, recording a hat-trick of ducks in ODIs against Australia.

During New Zealand's World Cup 2023 match at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamsala, Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell displayed a moment of maturity by refraining from attempting a risky single.

In the 24th over, with Ravindra Jadeja bowling just outside the off stump, Rachin Ravindra cut the ball to cover point where Suryakumar Yadav was stationed. However, Yadav's throw was slightly off target and ended up in the outfield. This presented an opportunity for the Black Caps' pair to consider taking an extra run, but they wisely decided against it.

Suryakumar Yadav found himself in the spotlight during the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. On October 22, 2023, he was included in India's playing XI for the match against New Zealand.

This decision stemmed from Hardik Pandya's injury, which necessitated a reshuffle in the team. Pandya sustained an injury while bowling in the match against Bangladesh at the MCA Stadium in Pune.

The inclusion of Suryakumar in the World Cup match was a strategic move by the team management, with communication to him and Mohammed Shami, another player who joined the lineup.

This marked Suryakumar's debut in the ODI World Cup for the national team, adding another milestone to his burgeoning cricket career.

Earlier in the year, Suryakumar faced a challenging start, recording a hat-trick of ducks in ODIs against Australia. However, he made a strong case for himself with back-to-back fifties against the same opposition in September, solidifying his position ahead of the World Cup.

His ability to adapt and deliver when needed showcases his growing influence and importance in the Indian cricket team. Suryakumar's inclusion brings versatility and dynamism to the side, making him a valuable asset as India continues its journey in the ODI World Cup.
