The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) senior national selection committee, on Tuesday, September 5, unveiled their 15-member India ODI World Cup squad after a meeting for the same in Sri Lanka. Both injury returnees KL Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah secured their spots in the team, while Sanju Samson was left out.
Selection Committee Meeting in Sri Lanka
Ajit Agarkar, the chairman of the selection committee, flew to Sri Lanka to meet Indian captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid. The meeting occurred after the India vs Pakistan Asia Cup match in Kandy, which was unfortunately washed out after the first innings.
In addition to Samson, Tilak Varma and Prasidh Krishna, who are currently in Sri Lanka for the Asia Cup, also failed to make it into the 2023 World Cup squad.

Batting depth
Following his impressive batting performance in the middle order, Ishan Kishan has also earned his place in the squad. Other key batters like Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, and Suryakumar Yadav will join skipper Rohit Sharma in India's batting line-up in the multi-nation tournament.
All-rounders and bowling line-up
The squad also includes all-rounders Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Shardul Thakur, as the selection committee emphasised batting depth. In the bowling department, pace attack will be led by Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj, with spinner Kuldeep Yadav also making the cut.
Meanwhile, the Indian cricket team is gearing up for a challenging yet exciting journey in the upcoming World Cup 2023. With the tournament set to kick off on October 8, Team India will start their campaign against Australia. The tournament follows a league format, featuring 10 teams that will all play each other once.
Team India World Cup 2023 matches will be spread across nine different cities, excluding Hyderabad. This makes India the most travelling team during the tournament. Notably, India is the only team that will not play twice in the same city during the league stage.
