Pakistan's Inter-provincial Coordination Minister Ehsan-ur-Rehman Mazari on August 3 has said that they will raise security concerns with International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding Babar Azam-led side’s travel to India for ODI World Cup 2023. The committee set up by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif last month which is chaired by Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari took the decision as the final World Cup schedule is yet to be announced.
“We have demanded that the ICC should provide us a guarantee for security,” Mazari told Dawn.com.
In addition, Mazari said that the government has had reservations about Pakistan's World Cup venues. These issues will be raised by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in front of the apex cricket board.
The last time India and Pakistan played in an ICC event was in last year's T20 World Cup in Australia. The arch-rivals have not played a single bilateral series. The last time Pakistan came to India was in T20 World Cup 2016.
Change in schedule
Pakistan are expected to play their first match against the Netherlands at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on October 6. With little over two months to go in the mega event, Pakistan are yet to confirm whether they will come to India or not.
The high voltage India vs Pakistan which was earlier scheduled to be played at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad is likely to be preponed. Earlier this week, Sports Tak learned that the venue of India vs Pakistan will not be changed but will be played on October 14.
Also, Pakistan's match against Sri Lanka is expected to be preponed as well. Instead of October 12, the match will be played on October 10.
