The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially declared that their chairman, Zaka Ashraf, has been accorded a three-month extension by the Caretaker Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Mr. Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, who also serves as the patron of PCB. The news was unveiled through a press release disseminated by the PCB on November 4th, 2023.
According to the press release, "The Caretaker Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the patron of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Mr Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, has granted a three-month extension to the PCB Management Committee, led by Mr Zaka Ashraf, the current head of the 10-member Management Committee."
Since assuming the leadership of the PCB Management Committee in July 2023, Zaka Ashraf has been at the forefront. Originally designed for a four-month term, the committee's tenure was slated to conclude on November 5th, 2023. However, utilizing his authority, the Caretaker Prime Minister chose to prolong the term by an additional three months.
"The Zaka Ashraf-led PCB Management Committee was instituted in July 2023 for a four-month duration, and the Caretaker Prime Minister, utilizing his prerogative, has decided to grant a three-month extension," the press release emphasized.
This extension comes at a crucial juncture, coinciding with Pakistan's current participation in the World Cup 2023. With the team still in contention for a place in the semi-finals, this is an especially critical period for the PCB and its management.
In a recent victory on Sunday, Pakistan secured their fourth win in the tournament by defeating New Zealand by 21 runs (DLS) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Fakhar Zaman made history by scoring the fastest hundred by a Pakistan batter, while skipper Babar Azam contributed a well-crafted half-century to the team's success.
Zaka Ashraf's stewardship has played a vital role in steering the PCB through this pivotal phase. His continued presence at the helm of the PCB Management Committee is expected to ensure stability and continuity as the team grapples with the challenges of the ongoing World Cup.
