Rohit Sharma is reaping benefits for his blistering batting in the ongoing ODI World Cup as the Indian skipper has stormed into the top 10 of the newly announced ICC ODI Batting Rankings. Apparently the Hitman Rohit has surpassed his own teammate and another batting maestro Virat Kohli in the batting charts.
While Kohli is placed with England's Dawid Malan in the eighth spot after notching back-to-back fifties in the initial three matches of the ongoing ODI World Cup, Rohit belted a blistering century in India's second game against Afghanistan and then followed it with a brilliant 86 against Pakistan to grab sixth rankings. This is the first time that Rohit is ranked above Virat Kohli in the ODI Rankings.
Meanwhile, Babar Azam continues to top the chart after his half century against India but star opener Shubman Gill is hot on heels with Pakistani skipper in no.2 following his comeback against Pakistan after battling out with dengue fever.
Talking about Rohit, he has been phenomenal with the bat in the ODI World Cup 2023. Leading the Indian team to three consecutive victories in the tournament has fueled the hopes of his cricket-loving nation for a home title win. Rohit's impressive stats include scoring 217 runs in three matches, boasting an average of over 72 and a strike rate of 141.83.
Notably, Rohit scripted history by becoming the first captain in the World Cup 2023 to score a century, marking his 31st ODI hundred and surpassing Ricky Ponting to claim the third spot on the all-time ODI century list. With only Kohli (47) and Tendulkar (49) ahead of him, Rohit's achievement is remarkable.
During a match against Afghanistan on October 11, Rohit reached a significant milestone by eclipsing Sachin Tendulkar's record for the most centuries in World Cup history. This match also saw him setting multiple other records, such as achieving the fastest century (in just 63 balls) by an Indian batsman in an ODI World Cup, hitting the most sixes in international cricket (555), and leading the chart for the most centuries in ODI World Cups (7).
As far as bowling rankings are concerned, India's pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, who had a stellar start to the World Cup campaign, has climbed seven positions to tie with South Africa's Kagiso Rabada in the 14th spot. India's Mohammed Siraj holds the third position, and Kuldeep Yadav is positioned eighth, both showcasing impressive performances in the early stages of the World Cup.
