Virat Kohli scripted history after slamming Sachin Tendulkar's all-time record of most centuries in the history of One Day Internationals. Kohli stepped on this landmark during India's ODI World Cup semifinal clash against New Zealand at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai on November 15, Wednesday.
Kohli took just 279 innings to record his 50th ODI hundred, one more than Tendulkar's 49.
Following Kohli's history 50th ODI century, the legendary Tendulkar reminisced about the day he first met the young cricketer in the Indian dressing room.
Tendulkar took to Twitter to pen an emotional post for the run-machine Kohli.
“The first time I met you in the Indian dressing room, you were pranked by other teammates into touching my feet. I couldn’t stop laughing that day. But soon, you touched my heart with your passion and skill. I am so happy that that young boy has grown into a ‘Virat’ player,” Tendulkar's tweet read.
“I couldn’t be happier that an Indian broke my record. And to do it on the biggest stage - in the World Cup Semi-final - and at my home ground is the icing on the cake,” his tweet further read.
Kohli took just 106 balls to touch the three-figure mark. Kohli not only etched his name in cricketing history but also surpassed Tendulkar's another record for most runs in a single edition of the World Cup. As Kohli crossed the century mark, Tendulkar, who was present at the stadium, rose to his feet and applauded the remarkable achievement. Kohli has so far amassed 711 runs in the ongoing World Cup while Tendulkar scored 643 runs in the 2003 edition.
