Sri Lanka's path to the World Cup knockout stages demands a commanding victory over Bangladesh. Injuries to key players have posed challenges for Sri Lanka, but they retain a chance to reach the semi-finals by securing wins against Bangladesh and New Zealand in the coming week. However, they also depend on several other results going their way to advance.

For now, their sole focus is on clinching their third tournament win by outperforming fellow Asian side Bangladesh. Bangladesh, on the other hand, has had a disappointing World Cup campaign with a solitary victory against Afghanistan in their opening match, followed by six consecutive losses. While their hopes of semi-final qualification are dashed, they aim to disrupt Sri Lanka's chances by securing another win in the tournament.
