Sri Lanka announce their ODI World Cup squad, frontline pacers return but star all-rounder ruled out

Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled out of ODI World Cup 2023.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced their ODI World Cup squad on September 26. Lahiru Kumara and Dilshan Madushanka have returned to the squad after recovering from their respective injuries. However, in a big blow, their star white-ball all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled out of the marquee event as he may require surgery. 
 

From Sri Lanka's Asia Cup 2023 squad, Pramod Madushan, Binura Fernando and Sahan Arachchige have been dropped. Also, Dushmantha Chameera has not regained full fitness and is ruled out of the quadrennial event. 
 

After a splendid display in Asia Cup 2023, especially the five-wicket haul against India at the league stage, Dunith Wellalage has retained his place in the squad.

The Dasun Shanaka-led side will begin their preparations on September 29 in the first warm-up game against Bangladesh at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati. Their second warm-up game will be against Hashmatullah Shahidi-led Afghanistan at the same venue on October 3.

 

They will kick off their World Cup campaign against in-form Temba Bavuma-led South Africa at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on October 7.
