Senior Indian cricketer Virat Kohli recently shared his most special experience while playing for India. During a Diwali show on Star Sports, Kohli mentioned that singing the national anthem in front of a packed stadium is a moment that gives him goosebumps. He also noted that when the crowd joins in singing the national anthem, it becomes an unforgettable experience.
Kohli has been in great form in the ODI World Cup. On his 35th birthday, he demonstrated his batting prowess on a slow track and achieved his 49th ODI century, matching the legendary Sachin Tendulkar's record.
The fans at Eden Gardens enthusiastically supported Kohli throughout the game, creating an electric atmosphere with chants of 'Kohli, Kohli' while he batted during the first innings on November 5.
"It's amazing. Of all the games that I have been part of in World Cups or big stages with India-Pakistan, this is one thing I can never forget - singing the national anthem in front of so many people and people singing it with you. And I'll tell you why, because for me that is the one thing that all your supporters and you as a team and all your management and everyone involved on the day in that game do together. All the other stuff while it is batting, bowling or fielding it's all happening separately, this is one moment where everyone's energy is streamlined into one thing and the power of that is very special," Kohli said.
"It's something to feel, it's not something you can quite put into words but that's why we get goosebumps and it's the energy which makes us feel like that. One gets very few opportunities to experience and feel the energy like that in a moment," he added.
Virat Kohli has maintained exceptional form throughout 2023. He expressed his satisfaction with his performance and emphasised that he didn't feel any urgency as he entered the 2023 World Cup.
"The fact that I came back to play the Asia Cup, and the sort of phase I was in, it was a space filled with content and I didn't have any desperation of any sort, so I didn't feel any pressure like I did before. I was only happy that I was again participating on a huge occasion such as this," he concluded.
Kohli has delivered consistently outstanding performances for India starting from the first match against Australia. Currently, is the second-highest run-scorer in the 2023 World Cup, accumulating an impressive total of 543 runs.
