The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on September 19 gave a stern warning to young pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib for his misogynistic comments in social media posts that went viral.
"If the wife works, the husband's rights are not ensured. If the wife works, the child's rights are not ensured. If the wife works, her elegance is damaged," Tanzim posted on Facebook last year.
A BCB official said that after the controversy, they talked to Tanzim regarding his inappropriate post. No action has been taken against him. However, a warning was issued that any further inappropriate posts will not be tolerated.
"We had a discussion with Tanzim Sakib and wanted to know about the Facebook post and he said that he did not post it to hurt anyone, rather he posted for his own self and even if it hurt someone, he is sorry for that," BCB's cricket operation chairman Jalal Yunus told reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on September 19.
"There is something regarding women and he said that he is taking all the responsibility for it and he insisted that the public assumption that he hates women is totally false because he said his mother is a woman so how could he hate women," he said.
"He said he was sorry. We have warned him so that he does not put up such posts in the future and he said he will remain away from making such kind of comments.
"This is very important (what kind of mindset he is carrying) and we will keep an eye on him and monitor him. His family is very scared and did not expect this kind of a situation. We have a World Cup coming up and he is a young boy. We have warned him, but in the future, if he does something like this, we will take action against him."
Tanzim who is a part of Bangladesh's squad for the ODI World Cup 2023 made his ODI debut against India in the recently-concluded Asia Cup 2023. On his debut, he got the wickets of Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and debutant Tilak Varma. He contributed to Bangladesh’s six-run win over India in the dead rubber match.
