Bangladesh team director Khaled Mahmud has given an update on Shakib Al Hasan’s availability for the clash against India on October 19. Shakib who was in the nets on October 17 did not complain of any discomfort. However, a final call is yet to be taken as he will undergo another scan on the eve of the match against the hosts.
“Shakib was there in nets looks good no complaints from him but will take a call on match day he will undergo one more scan tomorrow and then will decide whether he will play or not,” Mahmud told Sports Tak.
Shakib got injured on October 13 during the clash against New Zealand at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. He picked up a left quad injury while batting. He scored 40 runs from 51 deliveries before getting dismissed by New Zealand speedster Lockie Ferguson.
Bangladesh managed to post 245/9 on the board and New Zealand completed the run chase with eight wickets in hand and 43 balls to spare. Shakib bowled his full quota of 10 overs and conceded 54 runs. He got the wicket of in-form Kiwi opener Devon Conway by trapping him in front of the wickets.
He left the field in the 37th over. In his absence, Najmul Hossain Shanto led the Bangladesh team. He also walked out for the post-match presentation.
Shakib has picked up five wickets in three games so far. He has struggled with the bat and scored just 55 runs.
Rohit Sharma's India will take on Bangladesh at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune. Bangladesh are yet to beat India in an ODI match on Indian soil. On the other hand, Bangladesh beat India in the group stage of the 2007 World Cup. The Rahul Dravid-led side had to return home with a solitary win over Bermuda as they got knocked out of the group stage.
With just one win from three games, Bangladesh are placed in the seventh spot just above five-time World Champions Australia. India are at the top of the points table with three consecutive wins and a superior net run rate.
