The ODI World Cup, after 50 days of cricketing extravaganza, has reached its pinnacle with only two teams left vying for the ultimate glory. Pat Cummins' Australia will face a tough challenge against the host nation India, ably led by Rohit Sharma, as the five-time champions take on the two-time victors in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, November 19.
Ahead of the mighty clash, Australian skipper Cummins spoke to the media and was confident of providing an exciting clash against India while also expecting a hostile crowd backing the home team in Ahmedabad. "It’s going to be awesome against India. The crowd will be right behind them. They have been playing great cricket. Crowds will be one-sided and it will satisfy to get them silent. Whatever happens, no regrets," he said during the press conference.
"We play in India a lot so the crowd is nothing new for us. Reactions are different with David Warner dancing with the crowd and others just staying there," explained Cummins.
Pacer Mitchell Starc was one of the key performers in their win over South Africa in the semifinal. Cummins touted that his partnership with Josh Hazlewood will play a key role in the marquee clash. "The way Starc bowled the other night was good. The opening partnership between him and Josh Hazlewood will be important.
Heaping praise on Team India, Cummins highlighted a number of players to be wary of in their chase for glory. "India have certainly played very well in this World Cup. They are a well-rounded team in all departments. Shami is going to be a big one.
"Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja will be a tough proposition. Rohit and Virat are two class players. We have a few plans but nothing specific, he added.
Having fought back after losses to India and South Africa, Cummins is hopeful of going the distance after their performances in this edition of the World Cup. "We’ve won before in the World Cups. Different players stood up at different times and we drew a lot of confidence going into this game," concluded the star pacer.
