India's legendary cricketer Rahul Dravid who was known to be the ‘Wall of India’ was giving the shield to Men in Blue since November 2021 after Ravi Shastri left his job as Indian Men's head coach. Now this shield will be no more after India ended their ICC title drought by winning the T20 World Cup 2024 hosted by USA and West Indies.
Dravid's era came after India failed to perform in the T20 World Cup 2021. Under Dravid's guidance, team India excelled in all formats of cricket. He guided team India in 24 Test and have won 14 games and lost 7. India's record in tests under Dravid is only bested by Australia.
Interestingly, Dravid was leading team India during the time of the inaugural season of the T20 World Cup but the board announced MS Dhoni as his successor just before the tournament. He did not feature in the mega tournament under where India became the inaugural T20 World Champions.
India's dominance in T20s under Dravid's tenure.
His first mission was T20 World Cup 2022 where Men in Blue rocked in Australia. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were in lethal form and the former India captain Kohli played probably one of the best inning of his life against Pakistan. India reached the semifinal but Men in Blue lost that clash by 10 wickets. However, India performed brilliantly under Dravid's coaching and won 48 out of 69 T20 International matches played before the T20 World Cup 2024.
Team India in ODIs under Rahul Dravid's coaching role
After the T20 World Cup 2022, Men in Blue started preparing for the ODI World Cup hosted by India in 2023. Team India's unbeaten stormed into the final as the head coach mentioned every cricketer's role in the marquee event. The team management even kept senior players like Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah away from T20 cricket. Under Dravid's tenure, India won 10 out of 13 bilateral series and won 41 out of 56 ODIs. Apart from this, Dravid also established Shreyas Iyer as number four in the middle order for India.
Iconic Test wins against England and Australia
Under the supervision of Rahul Dravid, Team India, captained by Rohit Sharma, also made a mark in Test cricket. Team India could not win the Test series on the South Africa tour. But India won 14 out of 24 Test matches under Dravid's coaching and lost only seven matches. India were the finalists of World Test Championships where they faced Australia.
