Prime Minister Narendra Modi posed a hilarious question to Indian wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav, asking how he dared to make his captain dance. This light-hearted moment occurred when the Indian cricket team was invited to PM Modi’s residence on Thursday, July 4, to celebrate their T20 World Cup 2024 triumph. The team had finally returned home on July 4 after being stranded in Barbados for three days following the T20 World Cup final. The Men in Blue received a rousing reception upon their arrival, with fans flocking to the Delhi airport and the team hotel to welcome the World Champions.
After resting for a while at Hotel ITC Maurya in Delhi, the entire team traveled to the Prime Minister’s residence. There, they had a candid chat with PM Modi. The Prime Minister first congratulated the entire team on their World Cup win and then engaged in a discussion with the players about their experiences during the tournament.
Prime Minister Modi playfully teased Kuldeep Yadav for suggesting that captain Rohit Sharma imitate the celebratory walk of WWE legend Ric Flair before holding up the trophy. Rohit did a fun impression of the wrestler, and the moment went viral online. Kuldeep even joked that Rohit's walk wasn't exactly what he had in mind!
“How dare you made your captain Dance?,” asked PM Modi jokingly.
“I didn’t make the captain dance. I just told him to do it but he didn’t do it as I told him,” Kuldeep replied.
“I love to play for India, it’s an honour to represent the country at the highest level. I’ve been given the role of an attacking spinner in the team. I’ve been entrusted with the task of picking wickets in the middle overs by the captain and the coach. I’ve played three World cup tournaments so far and elated to lift it for the first time,” he added.
Kuldeep Yadav stepped up big time in the Super 8 stage of the West Indies, making up for missing the group matches in the USA. The 29-year-old spinner was India's fourth-highest wicket-taker during that stage, grabbing 10 wickets in just 5 games with a fantastic average of 13.90 and an economical spell of 6.95 runs per over. His best bowling performance came against Bangladesh, where he picked up 3 crucial wickets for just 19 runs in 4 overs.
