Rohit Sharma created history after playing an astonishing innings against Australia in match 51 of the ongoing edition of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St Lucia, on June 24 (Monday). He missed the opportunity to become the first batter with 6 T20I centuries and the second Indian after Suresh Raina to hit a ton in the T20 World Cups but still shattered a plethora of records during his 92-run innings.
Rohit Sharma creates lot of records
It was all Rohit Sharma in St Lucia after Virat Kohli once again got out on a duck. Rohit completed his fifty in just 19 balls, which is the fastest in this edition of the mega tournament and the third-fastest by an Indian batter in the T20 World Cups. He also became the first Indian batter to hit five sixes inside the powerplay during a T20I innings. Rohit also surpassed Yuvraj Singh's record with his 8 sixes against Australia. He now has the most sixes by an Indian batter in a single T20 World Cup match, the previous best was by Yuvraj's 7 sixes against England in 2007.
He now has 132 sixes against Australia, which is the most by a player against a single country. He overtook Chris Gayle who had 130 sixes against England. Rohit also became the first batter with 200 sixes (203*) in T20Is and also the first batter with more than 600 (602*) International sixes. The Indian captain has now also completed 19000 runs in International cricket and is once again the highest run-scorer in T20 International history.
Rohit lays the foundation for India's big score
Rohit Sharma's innings is what put the game in India's court. He helped India cross the 100-run mark by the 9th over itself. India were 127/3 when he got out on the second ball of the 12th over. He ensured that the Men in Blue post a big total against the Aussies. If India win this match, it would be because of the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma.
