Indian captain Rohit Sharma is eagerly waiting for the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2024. Ahead of the first match against Afghanistan, Rohit said that every player wants to make a difference. During the practice session, the opener also said that the schedule is a little hectic but the team won't use it as an excuse.
"There is real keen-ness in the group to go and do something special. It clearly shows that everyone wants to make a difference and we take our skill sessions quite seriously. There is something to achieve in every skill session that you do. Once we play the first game, we are going to play the next two in 3-4 days. It is going to be a little hectic but we are used to all of this. We travel and play a lot so that is not going to be an excuse," Rohit said in a video uploaded on bcci.tv.
The Indian team is in Barbados sweating it out before going up against Rashid Khan-led Afghanistan which dominated New Zealand and led to their early exit.
"We will look to focus on our skill and what we need to do as a team. We have played a lot of games here. Everyone understands what they need to do. Everyone is looking forward and are excited at the same time," concluded the 36-year-old.
India’s run at group stage
India have enjoyed an unbeaten run in the tournament so far. In their campaign opener, they bowled out Ireland for 96 and won the game comprehensively. They were tested by Pakistan on the tricky surface of Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York. However, the Indian bowling lineup led by Jasprit Bumrah was able to defend the target of 120 and beat Pakistan by six runs. They beat USA too in another closely-fought contest but their only match in Florida against Canada was washed out due to rain.
Rohit’s run in the tournament so far
Rohit started the tournament with a 52-run knock against Ireland. However, he departed early in the next two games. His opening partner Virat Kohli struggled in New York and scored just five runs at group stage.
