Rohit doesn't want his teammates to play for personal milestones.

Cricket is a sport that did not originate in India but over the decades, it has become the biggest sport in the country. Millions of fans have opinions on every match and every move of players whether it is the Indian Premier League (IPL) or international cricket. The passion of fans has turned into violent behaviour in the past as well. They have burned effigies of players and pelted stones at their houses if the result does not go in India’s way. India’s all-format skipper Rohit Sharma ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 said that he understands what he signed up for as a young kid but angry fans will need a strong throwing arm to pelt stones at their houses.

“When things go your way and you are playing well, people will make you look like Gods but if things don’t go your way, they can tear you apart as well. You sign up for that when you want to play that sport in India,” Rohit said on Dubai Eye 103.8.

“When they didn't like it, they have pelted stones at your (players) houses, not at my house because I live in a high rise building. You need some throwing arm to pelt some stones at my house (jokingly). It has happened in the past,” he added.

Rohit will be leading India in the T20 World Cup for the second time. After the completion of IPL 2024, India will head to the USA for their group stages game. In the last edition, Rohit-led India reached the semifinal where they were comprehensively beaten by Jos Buttler’s England which ended up winning the trophy.

How Rohit directs the team

In the show, Rohit was asked about how he approached captaincy when the baton was passed by Virat Kohli.

"When I took over as India captain, I just wanted everyone to drive in one direction that's how team sport should be played, it's not about personal milestones & personal stats & goals, it is about what all 11 of us can bring to the table & win the trophy," Rohit added.

MI’s last clash of the season

Mumbai Indians (MI) led by Hardik Pandya are already out of the playoff race. They are in the ninth position with nine losses from 13 games. They will take on Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Wankhede Stadium on May 17 in the dead rubber encounter.
