'Youngsters will get good opportunities': Kuldeep Yadav opens up on Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja's retirement

India star spinner Kuldeep Yadav opened up on the T20I retirement of the veteran cricketers Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja. Kuldeep who was the pick of the bowlers in the marquee event reckoned that after these retirements the youngsters will get opportunities in the shortest format of the game. 

 

Kuldeep emerged as the game-changer for India in the recently concluded marquee event as he picked 10 crucial wickets in the five outings. His best spell came against Australia where he got two crucial wickets which helped India to win the match by 24 runs. He got Mitchell Marsh and Glen Maxwell. He also solidified his position as a match-winner with a stunning bowling effort in the semi-final against England with figures of 3/19.

 

When asked about Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja's T20I retirement the spinner responded that there is no no better achievement than that. 

 

It is their personal decision. They have achieved a lot for India. I hope that youngsters will get good opportunities. They announced their retirement after winning the T20 World Cup and there is no better achievement than that" Kuldeep Yadav told ANI. 

 

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirement soon after India won the World Cup defeating South Africa in the final at Kensington Oval in Barbados. Jadeja took his Instagram to announce his retirement from the shortest format of the game a day after the World Cup win. 

 

Rohit Sharma's T20I Career

 

Rohit Sharma began his T20 World Cup 2024 campaign with a half-century, but his performance in subsequent matches was uneven. Sharma redeemed himself in the game against Australia, scoring his best shots and finishing with 92 runs. He scored 257 runs at a strike rate of 156.70 in the marquee event. He finished his T20I career with 4231 runs in 159 matches with 5 centuries to his name.

Virat Kohli carried India singlehandedly in three world T20 world cups (2014, 2016, 2022) having won two Player of the Tournaments in 2014 and 2016 and emerging as the highest scorer of the team in four T20 World Cups (2012,2014,2016,2023). Virat Kohli had an exceptional T20I career scoring 4188 runs in 125 matches with a century that changed everything for him.

 

Ravindra Jadeja's Career
 

Ravindra Jadeja has been pivotal as India’s bowling all-rounder making handy contributions during tough situations. He has scored 515 runs in 74 matches also taking 54 wickets playing an all-rounder role for the team. He has been an amazing fielder too having taken 28 catches. He played a crucial inning of 17 runs in 9 balls in the semi-final against England.
