From a former captain to a current one. This was how Pakistan skipper Babar Azam must have felt when he was gifted a special 'Sunny cap' by former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar during a special dinner party hosted by the Pakistan team mentor Matthew Hayden's farmhouse.
The Pakistan cricket team members celebrated their skipper's birthday at their mentor's farmhouse, keeping in mind that Hayden's home country is Australia and the country from Down Under is hosting the eighth edition of the competition. And joining in the festivities on the night was Sunil Gavaskar, who was good enough to gift Babar with a special cap.
"This is my Sunny cap which I present to very few. It was a birthday gift to him yesterday at Hayden’s farmhouse where the Pak team had come and I was also invited for dinner," Gavaskar said after the private occasion.
Babar, who turned 28 on October 15, also celebrated his birthday with the different captains of the T20 World Cup 2022. The special occasion coincided with the media day for all the captains of the participating nations on the same day. On that occasion, the captain of the host country brought out a special cake for the Pakistan skipper.
Babar enters into the T20 World Cup with hot-and-cold form with the bat. He will hope to lead Pakistan to their second T20 World Cup title and do one better than their 2021 T20 World Cup performance, where they defeated India en route to a semi-final finish.
The Men in Green will begin their preparations for the T20 World Cup with warm-up matches against England on Monday, October 17 and Afghanistan on Wednesday, October 19. Then, they kick off their competition with a blockbuster clash against India on Sunday, October 23.
