Team India players faced disappointment after their optional training session on October 25 (Tuesday). The dressing room food menu turned out to be an embarrassment as it included fruits, falafel and ‘make your own sandwich’. the food was cold and not up to players' standards, they addressed the issue to a concerned official at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Meanwhile, former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has reacted on the controversy which has caught everyone's attention. In an exclusive conversation with Sports Tak, Ganguly said,"BCCI will sort it out".
On being asked about the fact that Team India has been subjected to this repeatedly in Australia as similar instance happened in Ganguly's stint as BCCI president, he said that he was hopeful that BCCI will sort out everything soon.
The incident occurred in Sydney, where Team India will play a match against the Netherlands on Thursday (October 27).The Indian cricket team showed their displeasure with the after-practice menu served to them on Tuesday, and a few cricketers decided to eat in their hotel rooms.
On Tuesday, the Indian team had an optional training session in which all of the fast bowlers, along with all-rounder Hardik Pandya, batter Suryakumar Yadav, and spinner Axar Patel, were rested.
Earlier, a BCCI official, on the condition of anonymity, had said, "It's not like any boycott... Some players did pick up fruits and falafel but everyone wanted to have lunch and hence they had food going back to the hotel.”
"You can't just have a cold sandwich (not even grilled) with avocado, tomato and cucumber after two hours of training. That is plain and simple inadequate nourishment," he further added.
Ganguly also spoke on England's hapless five-run defeat at the hands of minnow Ireland in the T20 World Cup clash on Wednesday. He said,"It's a small game. Overs were truncated. In shorter format anything can happen."
Former India captain Ganguly is going to visit Qatar for the FIFA World Cup which is slated to be played from November 20 to December 18.
On his excitement on the marquee tournament Ganguly said, "I will go and watch FIFA World Cup. This is last World Cup of Messi and Ronaldo. Every sportsman's career comes to an end. One player cannot play for whole life. I hope both will play good. Their team also have to play well to lift the World Cup." Sourav also admitted that he is a Brazil supporter.
Ganguly also felicitated former Bengal captain Manoj Tiwary who returned to cricket after becoming state sports minister and slammed two centuries and two half-centuries, playing a key role in their Ranji Trophy semifinal finish last season.
"I have a dream -- to win Ranji Trophy for Bengal. I'm in the fag-end of my career that's why I'm keeping my fight on," the 36-year-old Tiwary said.
