T20 World Cup: Gautam Gambhir makes bold statement on KL Rahul after seemingly returning in form in Bangladesh clash

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir is of the opinion that KL Rahul will finally show his quality in the ongoing edition of the tournament after getting back to form with a well-played fifty against Bangladesh on Wednesday, November 2. After struggling to score runs in the first three matches of the ongoing marquee tournament, failing to cross the double-digit mark against Pakistan, Netherlands or South Africa.

However, the 30-year-old was in fine touch against Bangladesh on Wednesday and scored a critical fifty to help India post a big total. And with his form seemingly returned, the 2007 and 2011 World Cup winner has backed the India opener to light up the tournament as we head into the semi-final stages of this year's edition.

Speaking on Star Sports' Cricket Live, as quoted by News18, the former India opener backed Rahul and said that one bad innings does not make him a bad player.

Gambhir also said that Rahul was always in form. “When he got a fifty against Australia (in the practice match) in Brisbane, everyone was going crazy. He is probably going to light up this World Cup. A bad innings does not make you a bad player, and neither does it make you a great player. So, you probably need to be more balanced. You got to give them time and then that one shot over point probably changed everything,” Gambhir said on Star Sports show, ‘Cricket Live’.

“He is back in form, and he was always in form. Yes, there are times when you want to contribute, you know that this is a World Cup and the entire world is looking at you. And if you haven’t had the best of starts, it doesn’t mean you’re a bad player,” he added.

It was an important win for India, who lost their previous match to South Africa by five wickets. The Men in Blue are currently on top of their Group 2 table, with six points in four matches played.
