Two former champions India and England will be pitted against each other in the T20 World Cup 2022's second semi-final on a tricky Adelaide Oval track on Thursday (November 10), in a bid to set up a final date with Pakistan on November 13. While India have had better performances in the group stage compared to England, a high stakes, 'winner takes it all' contest like this always starts on an even keel.
After Pakistan defeated New Zealand in the first semi-final and booked their place in the final, over a billion fans are rooting for an India versus Pakistan final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on November 13 (Sunday). In order to ensure that happens, the Men in Blue will have to hold their end of the bargain by defeating the Three Lions. What happens if rain plays spoilsport?
In case the semi-final match is completely washed out due to rain, then which team will go to the final? Let's have a look at all the conditions:
Rule 1
The ICC has made a provision of a reserve day for the semi-finals and final of the 2022 T20 World Cup. In case not a single ball is bowled on the first day due to rain, then the entire match will be played on the next day.
Rule 2
On the other hand, if the match starts on the first day and rain interrupts the game then on the next reserve day, match will restart from where it was stopped.
Rule 3
Apart from this, at least 10 overs (5-overs-per-side) can be played to get the result of a match. The winner will qualify for the final.
Rule 4
If the game does not take place due to rain on the day of the match and it rains on the reserve day also and it's a washout on both days, the team that had a better finish in the Super-12 stage will qualify for the final.
Rule 5
If one team plays the full 20 overs in the first innings and it rains in the second innings, then the result will come only when the other team has played at least 10 overs of the match.
