David Warner is one of the best fielders in the world and he proved it yet again. Warner looked the most agile fielder at the WACA, Perth, in Australia's clash against Sri Lanka in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022. Warner gave his all as he almost pulled off a blinder while running from deep mid-off to long off. The Australian opener put in a dive and threw the ball back into the play to save two runs for his team.
In the 11th over of Sri Lanka's innings, Marcus Stoinis lured Dhananjaya de Silva into a lofted shot. Dhananjaya tried to play it over long-off but did not have enough timing on it. Warner sprinted from the 30-yard circle with his eyes glued to the ball. He put in a dive to take the catch but realised that the momentum will take him outside the boundary. Realising this, he threw the ball back into the play so that his teammate can save a few runs for the team.
In the next over, Warner jumped in the air to take an acrobatic catch to dismiss Dhananjaya off Ashton Agar's bowling. The Sri Lankan batter tried to hit Agar over extra cover but did not get enough power on the shot. Warner was a few steps inside to save twos. He sprinted towards the ball and completed an acrobatic catch to get the breakthrough for the hosts.
Warner's agile fielding saved a few runs for Australia. Despite a good start from pacers, Sri Lanka managed to post 157/6 as Charith Asalanka and Chamika Karunaratne took on the bowlers in the death overs.
So far, there have been few outstanding displays in the field in T20 World Cup 2022. At the top is New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips diving catch against defending champions Australia in the opening match of Super 12 stage of the tournament.
Earlier, in the warm-up games, India’s Virat Kohli pulled off a spectacular catch at the boundary to dismiss Tim David in the death overs.
