Former India middle-order batter and two-time World Cup winner Yuvraj Singh suffered the ire of netizens after his tweet went viral on social media. In his tweet, the legendary Indian batter pointed at the dropped catch by Ravichandran Ashwin and blamed the error for changing the momentum of the T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan toward the latter's corner.
The incident occurred in the eighth over of Pakistan's innings when Shan Masood top-edged Mohammed Shami's delivery to the deep fine-leg fence. Ashwin, who was stationed in the deep, ran and dived forward to take the catch. First, it appeared as if the veteran Indian player took a screamer but the replay showed that the ball had just bounced before Ashwin's hand, handing Masood a lifeline.
At the time, Pakistan's score was 43/2 in 7.2 overs and if Ashwin would have held on to the catch, the Men in Green would be tottering at 43/3 in 7.3 overs. Reacting to the missed opportunity by Ashwin, Yuvraj took to Twitter and said, "I guess the drop catch by r Ashwin ! Has changed the momentum of the game in favour of Pakistan ! Catches win matches !! Hopefully india can pull it back !!’ Come on lads #PakVsInd."
Fans didn't like Yuvraj's reaction and lambasted him for 'double-standard'.
Meanwhile, Pakistan recovered from a woeful start and posted a good total of 159/8 in 20 overs against India, and Masood went on to play an unbeaten knock of 52 runs off 42 balls.
