55 all out! Embarrassing low for defending Champions West Indies as Adil Rashid piles on records

It was the opposite of what one had expected from West Indies. A team filled with big-hitters was brought to their knees by Eoin Morgan’s bowlers as West Indies got bundled out for their lowest total in T20 World Cup. While Ben Stokes is not a part of the World Cup squad, he will have a wide smile on his face as English bowlers avenged the last-over horror defeat in T20 World Cup 2016 final.

It seemed like all West Indies batters wanted to do was to hit the ball out of the park. Bundled out for a mere score of 55 in 14.2 overs, this is West Indies’ second-lowest total in the format. Their lowest total in the format is 45 which also came against England more than two years ago. It is also West Indies’ third score below 100 against England in the format.

This is the first time two-time World Champions recorded a total below 100 in the mega event. Their previous lowest of 101 came against Sri Lanka in 2009 edition of World Cup.

Rashid piles on records

While it was a complete effort from the bowlers, Adil Rashid was the top wicket-taker with four wickets in his 2.2 overs conceding just two runs. Moeen Ali, Tymal Mills took two wickets each whereas Chris Jordan and Chris Woakes took one each.

Rashid also registered the best bowling figures for England in the format breaking Jordan’s record. The 33-year-old’s figures are also the best by a spinner in history of T20 World Cup. His economy rate of 0.85 is also the second-best when a bowler has taken four or more wickets. Former Sri Lankan spinner Rangana Herath also has the same economy rate but he took a five-wicket haul.
