India suffered a devastating 10-wicket defeat against arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday in their campaign opener with Babar Azam-led side ending their jinx against India in the World Cup events.
Pakistan captain Azam and Mohammad Rizwan's match-winning knocks did not let India make a comeback in the match. Rizwan stayed unbeaten on 79, while skipper Babar played a fluent knock of 68 runs as Pakistan became the first team to beat India by 10 wickets in the format.
While the competition was fierce on the field, it was all smiles and hugs between both the teams once the match was over. Indian captain Virat Kohli won hearts with a display of his sporting spirit by hugging one of the heroes of the Pakistan win, Rizwan. As the moments unfolded on the screen, fans lauded Virat and his large-heartedness.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) went ahead and tweeted the photo with the caption "Spirit of Cricket!!"
Later, India’s mentor MS Dhoni was also seen chatting with former Pakistan captain Shoiab Malik, Imad Wasim and current skipper.
Earlier, Pakistan's left-arm pacer, Shaheen Afridi had dealt India early blows by removing both the Indian openers, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul, cheaply, but skipper Kohli's tenacious half-century and 39 runs from Rishabh Pant helped India post a respectable total of 151/7 in their 20 overs.
