Scotland ease past Oman to reach India’s group in T20 World Cup Super 12 stage

Scotland registered their third win on the trot in Group B to reach Group 1 of Super 12 stage. Scotland chased down the target of 123 with three overs to spare after a terrific bowling performance after being asked to bowl first by Oman. From Group B, Scotland and Bangladesh have progressed to the Super 12 stage whereas hosts Oman and PNG got knocked out. Scotland will start their Super 12 campaign against Afghanistan on October 25.

Easy run chase

Oman bowlers were ferocious with the new ball against Bangladesh but failed to take a few wickets in the powerplay overs to put pressure early on Scotland batters in a low-scoring run chase. Fayyaz Butt took the only wicket in the powerplay overs but it did not impact the scoring rate. While skipper Kyle Coetzer missed his half-century, the third-wicket partnership between in-form batters Matthew Cross and Richie Berrington ensured that there is no anti-climax in the run chase. While Cross took the defensive approach, Berrington finished up the run chase with his unbeaten 21-ball 31 including three sixes.

Oman’s batting malfunctions

Oman’s batting lineup is over-dependent on their top order and it clearly showed. The unfortunate run out of opener Jatinder Singh for a duck on the second ball of the match, set the tone for rest of the innings. Opener Aqib Ilyas tried to play the anchor role but got out at halfway stage after a score of 37. Only two other Oman batters reached double digits and losing too many wickets in death overs hurt their chances of posting a respectable total. For Scotland, once again, fast bowler Josh Davey was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets from his four overs.
