Virat Kohli surpassed West Indies legend Chris Gayle to register most fifty-plus scores in T20 World Cup history. Kohli played a 57-run knock against Pakistan in their T20 World Cup 2021 opener at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. This is his 10th half-century in the mega event.

Coming to bat in the first over after Rohit Sharma bagged a golden duck, Kohli survived the new ball and continued his excellent run against Pakistan in the World Cup events. His 57-run knock came off 49 deliveries and included nine fours and one six. He helped India recover from 31/3 in the sixth over and post a fighting total of 151/7 after being asked to bat first.

This was the first time Kohli was dismissed against Pakistan in a T20 World Cup match. So far, he has scored 226 runs against Pakistan in four T20 WC matches including three half-centuries.

The 32-year-old now has 834 runs from 17 innings at an average of 83.40. On the other hand, Gayle has nine fifty-plus scores including two centuries. The Caribbean batter is followed by former Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene, who has seven fifty-plus scores.

During the tournament, the statistics may change as Gayle is also expected to play all the matches for the two-time World Champions.
