Defending champions West Indies ahead of their opening game against England on October 23 suffered a blow with Fabian Allen getting ruled out of the tournament due to an ankle injury.

The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 has approved left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein as a replacement for Fabian Allen in the 15-member West Indies squad. Hosein was named in the reserves. Now with the spinner moving into the main squad from the reserves, West Indies have named Gudakesh Motie as the 28-year-old’s replacement in the reserve list.

The replacement of a player requires the approval of the event Technical Committee before the replacement player can be officially added to the squad.

The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 consists of Chris Tetley (Head of Events, Chair), Clive Hitchcock (ICC Senior Cricket Operations Manager), Rahul Dravid and Dhiraj Malhotra (BCCI Representatives), Simon Doull and Ian Bishop (Independent Members).

Hosein starred in the Caribbean Premier League playing for the Trinbago Knight Riders and pocketed 13 wickets at a stunning economy rate of 4.92.
