The India vs Pakistan clash in the ongoing Women's T20 World Cup lived up to expectations as India pulled off a win in a high-voltage run chase that entered history books. At one point, Pakistan were ahead as India needed to score 10 runs per over in the slog overs. But there was one big mistake, Pakistan’s experienced campaigner Nida Dar committed which helped Jemimah Rodrigues got going.
Dar was bowling the seventh over. The pressure was on India as Yastika Bhatia had departed and Rodrigues was new to the crease. The 36-year-old off-spinner bowled a decent over conceding six runs from it but tit turned expensive due to one basic error. Dar bowled an extra-delivery which was hit for a boundary by Rodrigues.
Dar bowled a seven-ball over conceding 10 runs from it. The boundary helped Rodrigues release some pressure early in her knock. She went on to score an unbeaten half-century and help India in their campaign opener by seven wickets with an over to spare.
After the wickets of opener Shafali Verma and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, India were struggling. An extra four runs could have added more pressure on Rodrigues and wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh.
Many Pakistan fans took to Twitter to point out the mistake. They felt that the umpires should have intervened and ruled out the extra delivery as no ball. The on-field umpires Jacqueline Williams, Lauren Agenbag and third umpire Anna Harris missed the seven ball over as well and did not take an action.
One of the most experienced Pakistan players in the side, Dar was unimpressive in the crucial clash as she ended up conceding 36 runs from her quota of four overs.
The veteran of five India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup game and hero of Pakistan's first win over India in the tournament was dismal with the bat as well. She got out for a two-ball duck to pacer Pooja Vastrakar.
