Indian women's cricket team's ace opener Shafali Verma will now take up the mantle of leadership as she has been named the captain of the side for the inaugural edition of ICC Women's U-19 T20 World Cup 2023, slated to be held in South Africa. A total of 16 teams will participate in the women's U-19 World Cup, a tournament scheduled to be played between January 14 to January 29, 2023.
India is placed in Group D along with the hosts South Africa, UAE and Scotland. The top 3 teams from each group will advance to the Super Six round, where teams will be pooled into two groups of six.
The top two teams from each group will then progress to the semi-finals, which will be played on January 29 at JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom. The final will take place at the same venue on January 29.
Apart from announcing the squad for the U-19 World Cup, the All-India Women’s Selection Committee also announced the squad for the five-match T20I series against South Africa.
