‘Rohit should take a break before WTC final..’: Former West Indies' star batter amid Hitman's continuous struggle with bat

Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma isn't clicking with the bat and is going through a lean patch in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Rohit's form slump isn't a good sign for Team India with the all-important World Test Championship (WTC) final around the corner. India are slated to lock horns with Australian in the WTC 2023 final which will be played between June 7 to June 11 at the Ovals.

Talking about Rohit's batting failure in the ongoing IPL, he has only scored 191 runs in a total of 11 matches with a miserable average of 17.36. Rohit has also recorded three ducks in the IPL 2023 to become the batter with most ducks in the history of IPL.

His recent batting failure came in the MI's match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) when he was dismissed for a paltry seven runs.

Meanwhile, former West Indies' star batter Daren Ganga wants Rohit to take rest to start before the marquee WTC final with just 27 days to go.

Recently India's legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar suggested team India skipper to take rest to gear up for the WTC final, which was advocated by Ganga.

Ganga also said that Rohit is a batter of repute and quality players like him and Virat Kohli do go through a patchy form. The 44-year-old cricketer turned commentator while pointing out Rohit coming in as Impact player during MI's matches said that a rest could help Rohit to rewire himself which will only keep him in good stead ahead of WTC final.

"There is no doubt that he is a quality player. We have seen stories in the past of great players who have gone through periods of slump, more recently Virat Kohli was in a lull with his batting and he had to go through a lean period before he regained that form and that desire to score runs," Ganga said.

"Rohit is going through a similar situation where he is playing a lot of cricket, sometimes as a player you can get jaded, (with) the responsibilities as captain, as a player," he added.

"You have heard Sunil Gavaskar recommend that he take a break, freshen his mind before the World Test Championship - that might be a good option for him. I felt that in a couple of matches that he played as an impact player with Suryakumar Yadav leading the side that can also be a common ground for him to get a little more time for himself so that he can be fresh when it comes to his batting in the WTC final," Ganga concluded.
