Day 1 of the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 has been called off due to rain after just 13.2 overs. Rain interrupted play in the first session and did not ease so that play can resume in the remaining two sessions.
Now, new playing conditions for the remaining four days of the Gabba Test have been revealed. Minimum of 98 overs will be bowled on all four days to make up for the time lost on Day 1. Also, the first session will begin half an hour early that is 5:20 AM IST (9:50 AM local).
Earlier, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first at The Gabba, Brisbane. Australia were 28 for no loss after 13.2 overs. Nathan McSweeney played 33 balls and scored just four runs. His opening partner Usman Khawaja took 47 balls to score 19 runs. He hit three fours as well.
Rohit made two changes to the side. Akash Deep and Ravindra Jadeja replaced Harshit Rana and Ravichandran Ashwin respectively. Deep bowled 3.2 overs on Day 1 as first-change bowler. He bowled two maidens and conceded just two runs. Left-arm spinner Jadeja's services are yet to be used by the skipper.
On the other hand, Australia skipper Pat Cummins made just one change to the side. A fit-again Josh Hazlewood replaced Scott Boland for the Gabba Test.
