After rain played spoilsport on day 1 of the Gabba Test, India managed to get a good start on Day 2 as Jasprit Bumrah removed Australia's openers during the morning session of the third Test match of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. After Bumrah's twin blow, Nitish Kumar Reddy who made his debut in an ongoing series picked up Marnus Labuschagne's wicket. Australia lost their three wickets on just 75 runs and the visitors were in a strong position before Travis Head joined Steven Smith.
Head who scored 140 runs in the second Test match scored 152 runs in Gabba and Steven Smith who was going through a rough patch of his career in the longest format of the game also made his comeback smashing a ton after more than a year. Smith and Head managed to stitch a partnership of 241 runs for the fourth wicket.
India vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah (5/72) was the pick of the bowlers with his 12th five-wicket haul while Akash Deep (0/78) despite bowling well was distinctly unlucky. Mohammed Siraj (1/97) developed some discomfort in one of his legs and didn't look fully fit. Ravindra Jadeja (0/76) was an absolute disappointment with no help on offer from the track.
Brief Scores:
Australia 1st Innings: 405 for 7 in 101 overs. (Travis Head 152, Steve Smith 101, Jasprit Bumrah 5/72).
