Massive setback for India in SCG Test, Jasprit Bumrah taken to hospital for scans after suffering strain in back
Jasprit Bumrah leaves the SCG for scans on Day 2 of fifth Test.

India's stand-in captain and pace-bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah left the field during second session on Day 2 and was taken for scans in the nearby hospital. Reportedly, Bumrah complained of strain in his back and left the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). 

Bumrah left the field after the 31st over. He bowled 10 overs in Australia's first innings and got a couple of wickets.

He was seen in training gear leaving with the physios. The broadcasters also showed Bumrah getting into the car and leaving the ground premises. 

Bumrah's workload and record-beraking run

Bumrah's workload has been overwhelming in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. He has bowled 150 overs so far and the leading wicket-taker. He has 32 wickets, the joint-most by a bowler in Border-Gavaskar Trophy history.

Kohli leads India in Bumrah's absence

Before leaving the field, Bumrah informed Virat Kohli. Beau Webster and Alex Carey were batting in the middle when Kohli took over the captaincy.

Australia bowled out in second session 

After Bumrah left the field, Prasidh Krishna knocked over Alex Carey to break the partnership. Carey scored 21 runs from 36 balls including four fours. After the drinks break, Nitish Reddy got the wicket of Australian skipper Pat Cummins who scored 10 runs from 20 balls. Reddy in his next over got an outside edge off Mitchell Starc's bat which went to KL Rahul. In the next over, Krishna ended Webster's stay at the crease. The debutant scored 57 runs from 105 balls including five fours.

Mohammed Siraj came back into the attack and wrap Australia's innings by knocking over Scott Boland. Australia were bowled out for 181 from 51 overs as India managed to get a nominal four-run lead.
