'Never thought you would follow this rich tradition of dad statements': Ravichandran Ashwin passes big verdict on father’s ‘humiliation’ comments

R. Ashwin's father revealed that he wanted his son to keep on playing for the India.

India veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin reacted to his father's recent comments on his international retirement where he alleged that Ashwin said goodbye to international cricket because of humiliating treatment.

Ashwin who travelled back to India after announcing retirement took his 'X' formerly known as Twitter to issue clarification about his father's remark on his retirement. 

“My dad isn’t media trained, dey father enna da ithelaam. I never thought you would follow this rich tradition of “dad statements”. Request you all to forgive him and leave him alone,” the off spinner posted on X.

Earlier, Ashwin's father said that there was humiliation going on inside the dressing room and how long Ashwin can tolerate all those things.  He also said that he is happy but the other part of him is not happy because he wants Ashwin to continue for India.

“The sudden change – retirement – gave us really kind of a shock. At the same time, we were expecting it because humiliation was going on. How long he can tolerate all those things? Probably, he would have decided on his own” said Ashwin's father on CNN News18. 

 

“I too came to know last minute, actually. What was going on in his mind I don’t know. He just announced. I too accepted it with full pleasure. I did not have any feelings at all for that. But the way he gave his retirement, I was very happy, another part not happy because he should have continued,” he added.

The off-spinner announced his retirement from Test cricket after the third Test match between India and Australia at Gabba Stadium ended in a draw. In the three Tests in Australia, he only played in one Test. He was featured in the second Test match in Adelaide. Ashwin was later replaced by Ravindra Jadeja for the Gabba Test. Ashwin picked up 537 wickets in Tests he ended his career as India's highest wicket-taker behind Anil Kumble’s 619.
