In a recent video released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Indian batting maestro Virat Kohli highlighted his favourite Test century that he scored in Australia. Interestingly, Kohli has hit six of his 29 Test hundreds in Australia, including four on a single 2014–15 tour.
Virat's favourite ton in AUS
Kohli has frequently expressed his affection for the twin hundreds he scored in Adelaide during his 2014 captaincy debut. Despite being placed lately, he cited his 2018 Perth masterclass as his favourite ton scored in Australia. Notably, Kohli was the only player to score 100 runs in the match for both teams, scoring 123 (257) on a difficult track in the second Test of the 2018–19 series.
His knock was in vain, though, as Australia tied the series 1-1 and India lost the match by 146 runs. Kohli recalled his knock in Perth, saying it was the hardest pitch he had ever batted on in Test cricket.
"My best knock in Australia is definitely my hundred at Perth, 2018-19 series that we played. I thought that’s the toughest pitch that I’ve played on in Test cricket, it was great to have a hundred on that one,” said Kohli in a video shared by the BCCI.
Virat's astonishing numbers on Australian soil
With an incredible average of 54.08 and 1352 runs from 13 games, Kohli has an incredible record in Australia. He was India's top run scorer during the 2011–12 and 2014–15 tours and the right-handed batter has amassed six hundreds and four half-centuries during his tours at the land down under. During the 2014–15 tour, Kohli had his best-ever series performance against Australia, scoring 692 runs from four games at an average of 86.50 with four hundred and one fifty.
In terms of the most hundreds scored by an Indian in Australia during Test matches, he is tied with the great Sachin Tendulkar. He will be keen to outshine him with another outstanding performance during the next five matches. In the meantime, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is expected to step in for skipper Rohit Sharma during the first Test match in Perth starting on November 22.
