Jasprit Bumrah win Player of the Match.

He talks about Rohit Sharma's return and captaincy.

India's stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah registered his first-ever win as Test skipper after defeating Pat Cummins-led Australia by 295 runs in the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy which was being played at the Optus Stadium in Perth, on November 25 (Monday). However, with Rohit Sharma joining back the team, the Indian premium pacer will have to hand over the skipper's cap back to him.

Bumrah on Rohit's return

Bumrah kept aside his captaincy ambition and said that Rohit Sharma is the captain of the Indian team and he was just filling in his absence and now will be contributing in whatever capacity required.

"When you get out on a low score, sometimes bowlers get desperate. The message was clear to stick to the plans. Very happy to get the first Test win as captain. Even when I am not captain, I look to contribute as much as possible," said Bumrah in the post-match presentation.

Rohit Sharma is the captain of our side, I was just filling in. I am going to help in whatever capacity I can.

The bowling icon was also awarded with the Player of the Match award for taking 8 wickets across two innings which also saw a game-changing fifer in the first one. He played the major role in bowling out the Aussies for a paltry score of 104 runs and giving India a boost with a 46-run lead.

India regain top spot on WTC points table

India gave Australia a massive target of 534 runs for the final innings with the help of centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli along with a crucial fifty from KL Rahul. Later Indian bowlers wreaked havoc again and bowled out the hosts for 238 in the final innings. Travis Head with 89 was the sole fighter for the side.

With this win, India have now become the first visiting team to register a Test victory at Perth's Optus Stadium. They have also regained the top spot on the WTC points table. Aussies on the other hand have fallen to the second spot.
