At the Melbourne airport, India's superstar player Virat Kohli got into a fight with a female Australian journalist. The event happened on Thursday, December 19, when Kohli, his wife, actor Anushka Sharma, and their kids arrived in Melbourne. According to local media, Kohli became enraged after a journalist from Australia's Channel 7 took a video of the family. The cricket player was especially offended by the invasion of his family's privacy. He went up to the reporter and asked to see the photos and videos. After that, Kohli requested her to remove any pictures or videos of his family while letting her keep any that showed him alone.
Virat Kohli reveals reason behind the episode
In a video posted by Channel 7, Kohli can be seen leaving the scene and then returning briefly to further express his displeasure, indicating that the conversation was quick but intense.
"With my kids, I need some privacy yeah? You can't film without asking me," said Virat Kohli in the viral video from Channel 7.
What does Australian law state?
Photographing or filming celebrities in public is unrestricted by Australian law, which probably made things more difficult.
Notably, when Virat Kohli left for Australia before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, he urged the photographers not to take pictures of his family at the Mumbai airport. Virat Kohli was not travelling with the team from Brisbane to Melbourne but instead was accompanied by his family ahead of the fourth Test, which begins in Melbourne on December 26.
Notably, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and captain Virat Kohli have been taking separate family vacations between Australian locations. Before the third Test, Bumrah and Kohli travelled together in a chartered aircraft from Adelaide to Brisbane.
