Yashasvi Jaiswal breaks Rohit Sharma's epic record with robust 87-run knock in 2nd Test against England
Yashasvi Jaiswal shattered Rohit Sharma's towering record with a handsome 87-run knock in the second Test between India and England

Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his impressive form with yet another robust half-century in the second Test against England, which got underway on July 2. Even on a challenging pitch early in the innings, Jaiswal adopted an aggressive approach against English bowlers, making his intent clear with a boundary off the very first over bowled by Chris Woakes.

The left-handed batter also benefited from a moment of luck during the seventh over of the innings. The on-field umpire, Sharfuddoula, made a decision of 'not out' in Jaiswal's favor during an appeal. At this point, Jaiswal's score stood at 12 runs from 21 deliveries. Following this reprieve, and after the dismissal of KL Rahul who scored just two runs off 26 balls, Jaiswal adopted a more cautious approach to his batting, taking on the responsibility of stabilising the innings.

Once Yashasvi Jaiswal acclimatised to the conditions of the pitch, he launched an attack against the bowler Josh Tongue, hitting three boundaries in a single over. He continued his aggressive play by smashing five boundaries in the subsequent four overs. He took no time to reach his half-century, which was his fifth fifty in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia) countries.

With this half-century, Jaiswal achieved a towering milestone, surpassing Rohit Sharma's record of four 50-plus scores in SENA countries. Jaiswal's current tally of five such scores as an opener in these challenging cricketing nations is now greater than Rohit Sharma's numbers in the same role. However, Jaiswal had to return to the hut after scoring a handsome 87.

Yashasvi Jaiswal is now on the verge of equaling another record held by Rohit Sharma. With his latest half-century, Jaiswal is just one more such score away from matching Rohit Sharma's record for the most 50-plus scores by an Indian opening batsman against England in Test matches.
