After England won the toss and chose to bowl, KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal provided India with a composed start. The two batsmen demonstrated resilience, skillfully navigating challenging deliveries and capitalizing on any errors made by the English bowlers. In doing so, they became the first Indian opening pair since Gavaskar and Srikkanth to achieve a fifty-plus stand in a Test at Headingley. The iconic partnership of Gavaskar and Srikkanth had previously set the benchmark with a 64-run opening stand back in 1986.
