India vs England 1st Test: Jasprit Bumrah’s fifer, Prasidh Krishna shines as India bowl out England for 465 at Headingley
Jasprit Bumrah of India walks off after taking 5 wickets during Day Three of the 1st Rothesay Test Match between England and India at Headingley on June 22, 2025 in Leeds, England.

Story Highlights:

Jasprit Bumrah picked up a fifer in 1st Test vs England.

England managed to score 465 runs in 1st inning vs India.

India speedster Jasprit Bumrah picked up his 14th five-wicket haul as the Shubman Gill-led side managed a slight first innings lead of six runs by dismissing England for 465 before the tea on the third day of the first Test match of the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy at the Yorkshire Cricket Ground in Leeds, England.

Harry Brook scored 99 runs, including 11 fours and two sixes, after his reprieve on the second evening before Prasidh Krishna dismissed him one short of a hundred. Before that, Brook and Jamie Smith (40) stitched a 73-run stand for the sixth wicket, then the former put on 49 runs for the seventh wicket with Chris Woakes (38). Woakes and Brydon Carse (22) added 55 runs for the eighth wicket before Bumrah polished off the tail to finish with 5 for 83.

England were on top of the game as Harry Brook led the charge for them with a stunning knock. But Brook fell one run agonisingly short of his first Test century at his home ground, as Bumrah took over to pick his third five-wicket haul in England, despite four catches being dropped off his bowling. Though Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj were amongst the scalps, they weren’t at their best to stop the scoring rate.

The post-lunch session was started with Jamie Smith smashing a four and six each off Prasidh’s short balls via pulls. He again tried to smash the bowler for another one, but didn’t get enough connection on the ball, as some outstanding relay work from B Sai Sudharsan and Ravindra Jadeja ensured Prasidh bagged a crucial wicket.

Siraj, who was looking desperate for a wicket, got thrashed by Brook for back-to-back boundaries, before being given a reprieve on 83 as Jaiswal put down a catch in the gully region, as a helpless Bumrah and slip cordon watched on. Brook continued to drill boundaries, before falling one run short of a century - he had no control over the pull on a bouncer from Prasidh, and once long leg completed the catch, the right-handed batter had to make a long walk back to the dressing room.

Brief scores:

India 1st Innings: 471 all out

England 1st Innings: 465 all out in 100.4 overs (Ollie Pope 106, Harry Brook 99, Ben Ducket 62, Jasprit Bumrah 5/83).
